A Week in Kuala Lumpur
I’ve finally beaten the jetlag and am officially sleeping through the night again! Our first week here has been full of activities- RY does a really good job of scheduling events throughout the week to keep us busy. It’s interesting, if not overwhelming, having 75 people participating in coordinated activities. Even the simplest things like brunch turn into at least 25 people. Having so many people here is actually pretty great though because there is always someone willing to go out at almost any time of day. Seriously, even Sundays here are insane. When I was getting my MBA and spending a few months living in Thailand, there were only 11 students and almost everyone was so obsessed with their dissertations - aka good students - that it was like pulling teeth to get people to go out on a Saturday ffs. So I'm all for the huge group!
Work wise, I'm beginning to get the hang of working remotely in a completely different timezone than my clients. I recently got a freelancing project that requires at least 4 hours of working ET, so my hours are usually 11am to 2pm and then 8pm to 12am. I thought this was going to be terrible but it breaks up the day nicely and people typically stay out here until 3am or later, so getting off at midnight doesn’t kill the possibility of a night out.
My first big touristy trip of KL was visiting the Petronas Towers. You pay 80 ringgit (about $20) and go up to the Skybridge, followed by the 86th floor. The towers offer panoramic views of the city and the tour gives you more than enough time to snag some pics. To be honest it was a little too much time, started to feel a little trapped after an hour up there. It takes about 5 minutes to take a pic and there’s no bar at the top so not sure why anyone would really need that long…

One of the guys in our program bought a room in The Face Suites for a night and let us all come up and use the infinity pool. Yayy for having bougie friends! The view was stunning and it was such a fab way to enjoy the few hours between massive tropical storms here (it’s monsoon season!)
